Look at you, you have made it to day ten. Ten days in and if you really have put in the work you are at the point where you have become your prospect. You know them intimately. If any of you saw the movie Ray with Jamie Foxx playing the role of Ray Charles you know at some point in the movie you felt like you were watching Ray Charles himself because Jamie Foxx embodied Ray Charles. That is what you should be like by now. You should have such a surreal experience because you feel like you truly know who your prospect is. It should feel like you have been like a fly on their wall taking in all of their inner most feelings. If you have actually completed all nine exercises you should be wondering what is the point of all of this information gathering.
In order to develop and execute a great marketing plan you have to understand who your market is. These exercises should really help you not only know your customer but be able to provide them with real concrete value for their needs.
This next exercise is what I call getting down to the nitty-gritty. This question will make you wince, it will make you feel uncomfortable, it might make you cry to write down what is embarrassing to you. But it is important that you take this exercise just as seriously as you have taken the rest.
CONTINUING TO CREATE YOUR AVATAR
What am I embarrassed to admit - even to myself? Example:
I really don’t like ‘selling/marketing’ or talking to people.
I really don’t like/need these products. Don’t think they are worth it on their own.
This whole thing could be a scam/sham. (company doesn’t care about products)
People are stupid who don’t see things the way I see them (Am I stupid/incapable?)
I like the ‘idea’ of having my own business, but I secretly don’t want the responsibility.
Now, it is your turn. Write down what you are embarrassed to admit even to yourself. Once you are honest with yourself you can then begin to fix the area that has been holding you back. Identifying this area of weakness is the very area that many find is what keeps them from successfully providing for others. Don’t you find it interesting that in order to bless others or give to others you first need to identify your areas of weakness that may have crippled you.
If you are not a great communicator and you just do not know how to talk to people. Maybe you say the wrong words or get tongue tied. If you are weak in this area you will be unable to educate people on your product or service. And if you have not identified this is why you are not successful then you cannot fix this area. But once you have identified it, you can begin to learn skills along the way that can help you not only develop into a skilled communicator and successful salesperson but provide your customers with real value.
