The Critical Importance of the value of being there through cultivating helping relationships for home-based businesses.
Have you ever been frustrated that you have not been in a position to help other people because you feel that you don’t have anything significant enough to give? Are you overwhelmed with not being in a position to add value to the marketplace in an impactful manner? Are you stuck in your life where you want to be in business for yourself but do not know how to take the first step? Do you lack the knowledge to build a significant legacy to leave? These questions and many more are one’s that are asked by countless individuals daily. Individuals want to be seen as valuable, significant and relevant but do not always know how to get there. One of the major reasons individuals want to own their own business is because of these three factors.
That is why Network Marketing businesses are in such demand, because although business is about selling a product or service for profit, it is about groups of people working together to optimize each other’s efforts and business and create more value for each other and for customers. Network Marketing businesses truly incorporate both the profit aspect as well as the value. The truth of the matter is that Network Marketing businesses and traditional businesses are insufficient without both.
When you run a Network Marketing business you have to address topics such as execution, innovation, branding, prudent financial oversight, and wise investing. These topics are all part of any business but are just only a part. The other portion that is addressed are topics like empathetic listening, positive acceptance of other people for who they are, thinking about prospects and team members with warm regard, and listening to try to really understand the importance others serve as part of the business. One without the other is truly insufficient. However, often missed is another aspect and that is helping relationships which serves as the glue and sometimes the foundation of your business’ success.
The Nature of Relationships
In Network Marketing businesses, there are different types of relationships like team leader to team member where the emphasis is on increasing the new business owner’s business knowledge and level of education and execution--clarifying each person’s role, purpose, nature, and direction of their business and improving processes along the way; educator to prospect where the emphasis is on teaching and presenting information about one’s product or service in a non-threatening manner; business owner to end user relationships, where the emphasis is on finding the customer’s need and addressing that need through supplying the product or service.
However, beyond the typical relationships that exist within a Network Marketing business, there is another type of relationship that occurs regardless of function or title. I refer to this type of relationship as a “helping relationship”, which is the core mandate of a Network Marketing business. When you are truly working within the definition of a Network Marketing business which is people helping people with the understanding as we connect with one another, a business owner increases his or her chances for personal and business growth as he or she assists another to do the same. Operating your Network Marketing business while cultivating these types of business relationships is crucially important not only for the end users but to help those novice and existing business owners reach their full potential.
The Need for Even More Emphasis on Helping Relationships I have often asked individuals that I have coached how they would describe the current rate of change in the Network Marketing industry. The answer was always unanimous. The answer was, “I have never seen the number of changes or the rate of changes that is occurring right now in our industry at any other point in being in business.”
Businesses experience changes constantly. They will either experience proactive change or reactive change but know that they will experience change. Proactive change is when a business incorporates new systems or approaches to improve its future. Reactive change is when a business is forced to change an existing system or approach in order to survive or thrive. No matter what type of change a business utilizes, change in and of itself creates stress on the business and business owner. The bottom line is that people get stressed.
The fact that the source of Network Marketing is people helping people become the best distributors of products and services through business ownership, it is extremely important that there are a variety of helping relationships between individuals throughout each business. The time that is required to invest in these relationships should be seen as enormously vital rather than as a waste of the business owner’s time and money.
It is imperative that in order to obtain success as a Network Marketing entrepreneur one has to work the business at its foundational core. You have to remember that without the cultivation of helping relationships, otherwise great business associates at all levels can and will burn out leaving a bitter taste of frustration and feeling disregarded. These are the very feelings that have tainted Network Marketing. It is our responsibility as entrepreneurs to help others understand the beauty and greatness that which is Network Marketing ownership.
Therefore, when you have team members working together in unison, bouncing ideas off of one-another, making referrals, etc. those transactions and interactions in the long run can serve to be high yield investments of time and energy which in turn helps everyone’s business grow more successfully. In the 20 years of being involved in a Network Marketing business I would be very hard pressed to find areas of my business where it did not benefit from the vast helping relationships that God has enabled me to develop and maintain. Although we know that Network Marketing is about people helping people or developing and maintaining those helping relationships, we often forget that that is the stuff that helps your business to thrive and improve.
