BE KIND TO PEOPLE ALWAYS

Are you ever frustrated and sometimes behave in a rude manner? Have you ever lacked the demeanor to be kind to people even when they are to you? Have you ever become overwhelmed at recruiting and get upset because a person does not sign up with you? Do you get stuck and do not always have the desire to be kind to everyone you meet and genuinely concerned about others? If you answered yes to any or all of these questions there is hope yet.

PURPOSE It can be hard to maintain your composure when you are sharing your opportunity with others. What seems to happen in the midst of introducing someone to your opportunity is you become emotionally attached to your opportunity and feel as if the person is turning you down and not the opportunity. When this happens you may take it personally and if you do that then you may become cynical, rude, and a little obnoxious. We have to remember that these emotions are never good in business. If you went into a restaurant and they asked if you wanted to purchase one of the latest combo meals and you said no (which is perfectly within your right to do), and the cashier used profanity toward you to express to you how upsetting it was that you were not purchasing the latest combo meal, you would be livid amongst other things. You probably would never return to that particular restaurant and be leary to go to others thinking that if they have employees that behave that way then they are supporting them and it is probably not just isolated to one store but the others as well.

DIRECTED

I want to give you some incredibly powerful MLM Guidelines that Ray Higdon shared on his blog. These tidbits are just unregulated rules that if you are going to become an awesome leader you will want to adhere to them. I say unregulated because no one requires them to be followed, but they are definitely important to your leadership transformation. It is similar to what I tell my children when it comes to lying. Although you may not have Jesus in the flesh telling you what to do, remember He is still there and watching. You may not have someone over your shoulder monitoring your every move however becoming a leader requires far more than telling individuals what to do. In fact telling people what to do is not leadership at all especially if you strive to build a large team. As a leader these are concepts you want to learn and teach to your team. Remember, Mahatma Gandhi said “Be the change you want to see in the world.”

These sayings will help with being the change we want to see in the world and they have been attributed to being written by Mother Theresa but quite the contrary, she is NOT the person that wrote them. The person that wrote these first was Kent M. Keith in his pamphlet called “The Silent Revolution: Dynamic Leadership in the Student Council”.

BE PREPARED TO BE KIND

These sayings have been shared with many and I want to share them with you today because they are AWESOME, BENEFICIAL and they express the way that you SHOULD handle yourself as a Network Marketer or MLMer. Our profession deserves to be run professionally by professionals and these ten reminders will help.

1. People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered. LOVE THEM ANYWAY.

2. If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives. DO GOOD ANYWAY.

3. If you are successful, you win false friends and true enemies. SUCCEED ANYWAY.

4. The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow. DO GOOD ANYWAY.

5. Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable. BE HONEST AND FRANK ANYWAY.

6. The biggest men with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men with the smallest minds. THINK BIG ANYWAY.

7. People favor underdogs, but follow only top dogs. FIGHT FOR A FEW UNDERDOGS ANYWAY.

8. What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight. BUILD ANYWAY.

9. People really need help but may attack you if you do help them. HELP PEOPLE ANYWAY.

10. Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth. GIVE THE WORLD THE BEST YOU HAVE ANYWAY.

HARD WORK AND KINDNESS WILL TAKE YOU A LONG WAY

As a leader you have to deal with many things some include being an intermediary. In fact, Ray Higdon shared that he received some communication from someone outside his team that someone INSIDE his team was being “unkind” in their prospecting efforts. There are individuals who may or may not be on your team that are extremely nasty. There are plenty of people who just like being involved in chaotic situations; they will go around talking poorly about individuals because they do not have anything else to do. One of the things that Ray Higdon communicated that would be best to handle a situation where someone outside the team is speaking poorly of someone inside the team is to first thank the person for informing you of the rude behavior of another. It would be exactly the same as someone insulting a family member. It is important not to behave in a hateful manner when you hear something that does not please you. First and foremost thank the person for the information but NEVER criticize the person. You may criticize the behavior, but not the person.

SUCCESS

A rule of thumb is to praise people publicly and criticize people’s behavior privately. Always address the issue and the facts. Since the insurgence of the internet there are people who air their dirty laundry on Facebook, Twitter, instant message, etc. Although these are incredible tools to use to enhance your business, as a professional you have to remember that you represent not only yourself you represent the team. What you do affects more than just you. We tell our children that if you behave poorly it affects everyone in the family, the same goes for you. If you behave poorly just like the restaurant analogy above it could cause a ripple effect and put others in a position to have to clean up your mess (so to speak). The thing that you can take with you is the following:

  • BE KIND - You will never know how effective you will be if you are nice.

  • BE KIND - If you are rude to someone they will never get on board because that is what they will remember.

  • BE KIND - People are not turned off by network marketing teams they are turned off by network marketers. I love the saying you can catch more bees with honey.

If you get anything out of what I have written today it is to be kind. This trait is one that we all have within us but not all individuals exhibit it, yet it is the one trait that is the most valuable to have that carries over into all aspects of your life.
