Have you ever felt frustrated about your plan for success because it seems at every turn you are facing obstacles? Are you overwhelmed with whether you should abandon your plan because it just doesn’t seem to be working? Are you feeling stuck because you feel that you have tried everything and you are not making any head way toward achieving success? Have you ever felt as if you lack the tenacity to push through the hard parts to get to success? Well there are some elements that you have to work out in order for you to gain some momentum toward succeeding.

FIRST, Find out what you want in life and how to achieve it

Robert Kiyosaki often speaks about when he was a young man. He talks about how he set goals one in particular was to become a millionaire by the time he turned 30 years old. The exciting part of that story was that he accomplished just that. But there was a monkey in his wrench--he lost every dime that he earned. Although there were some major defects in his original plan, those errors were the very things that he learned from. We have to remember that our most valuable lessons will come by way of facing obstacles, problems, hard situations and the like.

He speaks about how the lessons that he learned during the time that he was broke gave him great insight on how he had to adjust his plan. Once he made the necessary adjustments not only did he succeed he became financially free once again at the age of 47. Here is the interesting part. Throughout all those experiences, successes, and failures he never changed the plan. The plan was to become a successful businessman and to be financial free. All he did along the way was make simple adjustments to his strategies and make improvements more and more while firmly staying true to the original plan. He never would have achieved the type of success that he has had he not stuck to his plan.

It can become very frustrating when a plan doesn’t turn out the way we plan. But what happens is we abandon the plan, making no adjustments, nor improvements and we become quite angry thinking that it was a bad plan to begin with. That would definitely be the wrong attitude to have. If we would take what seems to be a failed plan, make an honest assessment of the problems and hurdles we might find the only thing the plan needs is a little adjusting not total abandonment.

Remember before you can make adjustments, assessments or improvements you FIRST have to know your plan. So, what do you need to do to discover your own plan?

1. Have Patience.

I have learned that it is rare that a great plan will happen immediately. Plans are vastly different for each and every one of us, so to find the plan that is right for you, take some time out and think long and hard about your life. What do you desire the outcome of it? Where are you headed? This is a process that is not always easy and definitely not quick. It could take days, weeks, and sometimes months to find the answers to the aforementioned questions. But, do not get frustrated, be encouraged and take the time to discover and define what is really important for you in life.

I would suggest that while you are figuring this out, it may be a great idea to keep this information to yourself until you are totally sure as to what you want. Be mindful that many times you will find people enforcing their ideals on others knowingly or unknowingly and not taking consideration of what the person wants for themselves, i.e. Sara, I can see you as a doctor not a teacher. Billy, you should go back to school to become a lawyer like your brother instead of working as an accountant. This time is yours. Take it to define what you want for you.

2. Mentors and Coaches

As much as I feel that I am a highly intelligent person, I realized that I can learn from others. With that being said after finding what you want in life, locate someone you trust who can serve as a mentor or coach in the area you want to achieve. Someone who successfully accomplished the same thing you want. You may want to make it a formal process and interview individuals you are not necessarily friends with. This type of formality will enlighten you really what it will take to achieve want it is you want.

This person will be your guiding force and inspiration to help keep you on point and on task once you develop your plan. Remember that a mentor or coach is not there to indulge you; they are there to push, prod and poke when you want it least and to correct you along the way as needed of course.

3. Set realistic goals

I cannot honestly say that people abandon plans simply because they are lazy or the plan was so awful. Actually many people abandon a plan because the goals were far reaching. They just were not realistic.

Your goals should mirror what you want in life. In Network Marketing you will find the majority who will set a goal like, “I want to be a millionaire!” This is not a good goal because it is extremely lofty and difficult when you look at it. Because it is lofty and challenging to obtain it is easily dismissed, especially when it has been challenging for you to make your first $5,000.

Your goals MUST be real particularly to you. A reasonable goal or realistic goal would look like: “I want to have enough passive income to cover my monthly’s expenses so I am not robbing Peter to pay Paul and I can spend that time focusing on my children.” This goal is much better than the first. All you need to do is figure out how much passive income you need to achieve it and put a plan together.

By making your goals personal, your chances of sticking to them and achieving your ultimate goal increases tremendously.

Your goals are ever evolving, when you make one, make another. Just start small and work your way up. Add to your goals, improve them as your education and experience increases. As the saying goes “you have to learn to walk before you can run”. The same goes for setting and achieving those goals.

Remember that you will make mistakes, but I do not want you to get discouraged. Just because your goals are small and simple it does mean that you will not face problems. No one wins all the time. What’s important is not that you fall down but that you get up. Getting up simply means that you learn from your mistakes, you take that information and you reassess, re-plan and implement.

4. Teamwork makes the dream work

Network Marketing at its basic core principles is about teamwork. It is a team sport all the way. As your plan grows you will need your team members more than ever. They are going to be a critical part of making your dream happen and vice versa. Your team might consist of people you sponsor, people who are in the same industry as you, leadership, successful mentor, bookkeeper, banker, insurance and others.

Be selective as to who makes up your team. In order for your dream to manifest you must have a strong team which means you must have strong team members. Your careful consideration of individuals will allow for much more productive meetings because these will be the individuals whose goals dovetail yours. As you meet, and you will do so often over a long period of time, you will find that a lot of what you learned will be gained through these meetings.

5. Mind your business

No matter what your plan is in Robert Kiyosaki’s book Rich Dad, Poor Dad he stated, “Regardless of whether you work for someone else or for yourself, if you want to be rich, you’ve got to mind your own business.”

That is so true. You must not get distracted or off course by side projects. Yes, there may be a payday from it, but think about what the most valuable thing you have. It is your time. By spending time focusing on something that earns a little money you have taken that time from your original goal and plan. The time you spent could have gotten you that much closer to your goal. If what you are doing doesn’t move you in the right direction relative to your plan, don’t do it.

When you are minding your own business, you will be more in tune with what is going on around you in the industry. This type of alertness enables you to adjust your plan accordingly. You must be diligent along this journey and keep going don’t stop. If you take one step at a time, you will have a greater chance at getting everything you want in life.
