Are you feeling frustrated about your plans for making this year an incredible year? Have you felt overwhelmed about your plans to succeed this year may be just like every other year and not happen? Are you feeling stuck in making definitive plans only to see them just be that plans and not accomplishments? Do you lack the confidence to learn to set plans and put those plans into action? If you are having a hard time starting this year off right I would like to help you begin right now because it is not too late.

I want you to know that all successful time managers are good planners. And successful time managers turn into great leaders. One of the things that a good planner does is a good planner makes lists and sub-lists to accomplish each major and minor objective they have. Whenever a new project/goal crosses their minds, they take the time to think through exactly what they want to accomplish and then write out a systematic list, in sequence, of every step necessary for the completion of the project. Example: if you want to accomplish reaching the next pin level in your company which serves as you thinking through want you want to accomplish. That is the first action of a good planner. You then must write down a list of every step necessary to reach that goal, that may include and not be limited to the number of people you need to talk to in order to sponsor a certain number and so forth and so on. Although those behaviors are the beginning to planning your success, here are 4 steps that leaders take that allow them to create years of success in their businesses and can help you do the same.

1. CLARITY

Leaders are clear in their thinking as well as their doing. There is a rule in traditional business that every minute spent in planning saves ten minutes in execution. Well, that rule does not just apply to traditional business; it applies to business which is what you are running. The time you take to think about a task on paper before you actually begin work gives you a return on personal energy of 1,000%—ten minutes saved for every minute that you invest in first planning your work. For this reason is why I utilize the goal charts that help me move toward my goal. Upon having clarity about your goal, make a list of everything and I mean everything that you will have to do to achieve that goal. As you think of other items continue to add them to your list until you have a completed list. Then organize your list according to its sequence and priority. 2. ORGANIZE

Sequence

Create a list of activities in sequential order, from the first step to the final step needed to complete the goal i.e. 1. Hand out business cards to 100 people at the mall, 2. Show presentation to 20 people per day, 3. Enroll 3 people per day, 4. Train 1 person per day, etc. As Henry Ford said, “The biggest goal can be achieved if you simply break it down into enough small parts.” By organizing by sequence it will allow you to really understand what your tasks are and see clearly how you will accomplish your goal. Prioritize

The second thing you should do is set priorities for each activity. Be mindful that 20% of the activities on your list will account for 80% of the value and importance of all the things you do. Therefore, setting priorities will allow you to stay focused on key tasks and activities without getting distracted. Goethe said it best, “The things that matter most must never be at the mercy of the things that matter least.” This task is important because you do not waste a lot of time. You will spend time on those things that need your attention most first and those things that affect productivity quicker. 3. REVIEW

Many times we may plan and even organize our ideas but we may spend time performing a regimen and not realizing the effectiveness of it. This step is critical toward understanding what is working so you must review your plans regularly, especially when you experience frustration or resistance of any kind. Be prepared to revise your plans when you receive new information or feedback. Remember that almost every plan has flaws in it, both large and small. Because there are flaws in every plan you will need to continually seek them out in order to correct them. Just like a fighter pilot has to continually make adjustments to their flight plan along the way yet they always reach their destination-- so will you. When you review your plans daily you are making the adjustments through receiving new ideas, perspectives and insights. These ideas, perspectives or insights may come in the form of how to complete the task faster and better than you may have thought initially. But you will only get this information when you take the time to review your plans. 4. DO

Faith without works is dead! Action without planning is the cause of every failure. You cannot expect results if you have done the aforementioned activities and not put any action toward it. You must not just write your plan down you must put your plan into action which means you must work. Even when you are taking action, before that is done resist the temptation to do so before you have planned it out thoroughly in advance. Take the test to plan for goal achievement.
