IT IS EASIER TO GIVE BIRTH THAN TO RAISE THE DEAD

Are you frustrated with trying to inspire and motivate others to work their businesses? Have you felt overwhelmed with stagnation? Do you lack the knowledge and the ability to help push others to become productive? Do you feel stuck and cannot develop any momentum because of lack of motivation with your team? Well, do not despair there really is a simple solution to helping you grow, stay positive, and develop quantum leaps in your business.

YOU ARE NOT ANYONE’S PARENT

The answer is DO NOT try to change people. One thing that I have learned is there is a difference between a manager and a leader. A lot of managers fall into this trap of seeing potential in someone and trying to change them, trying to motivate them and push them into an arena either they are not ready for or really do not want even though they said so. Managers try to make them go when they do not want to. They are constantly pushing and the person is constantly pulling away. Instead of letting people be what they are going to be which is what a leader would do, the manager tries to make them produce because the manager wants it more for the person than the person wants for themselves. The leader however, will provide an environment that hopefully the person will decide to change. The leader will provide great educational opportunities, make themselves available, follow-up from time to time, but the Leader will not go out of their way to make someone a project “so to speak” who really does not want help in changing their lives. Leaders inspire and not motivate because they understand if you have to motivate someone to get them in you will have to motivate them to keep them in which is quite contrary to the role of a leader. A leader realizes that the best thing that they can do is to spend their time locating new people, and more time developing groups. It is said that it is easier to give birth than to raise the dead. The ability and energy that a leader expends trying to get new people, fresh people, cooperative and self-motivated people will do more for you than trying to get those who have been in the business a while to become more active and engaged.

A LEADER’S RESPONSIBILITY

Managers need to become leaders and in becoming a leader they will begin to understand that they should not fall in love with someone’s potential and waste their time. We all know that potential is merely the ability to do something and not yet doing it. Therefore, a Leader will not continue to try to get their existing group to produce and do just a little bit more when they are aware that their group isn’t doing the necessary tasks for productivity i.e. getting on training calls, reading positive books, attending national and regional conferences, reading informative emails, etc.. What a leader quickly learns is that when an individual wants to really change their situation and circumstances they do not need anyone to push them. Their situations will propel them all by themselves and inspire them enough to be productive. One of the most frustrating things that a Manager who is not yet a Leader can do is fall in love with a person’s potential because when you fall in love with their potential you lose their objectivity and you are not any good to the person or yourself. It can be frustrating to develop programs, incentives, and other motivating tools for individuals who have been sitting a while and you see that they are so close to reaching a goal and really doing something huge. It is frustrating to see someone so close toward capturing their future and they are unable to see it and take the small necessary steps toward grabbing it.

NO STRESSING ALLOWED

As Jim Rohn said, let those people be. Tony Robbins said it so eloquently in yesterday’s blog post that I sent out. A person MUST have certainty in what they are doing in order to accomplish their goals. So if you have no belief or certainty the results will be uncertain and unsuccessful. This is one of the mysteries of the universe. Why would a person have such potential, yet will not use it to accomplish great things in their lives. What I want you to remember as a Leader, our job is to give people an opportunity and create the environment for success. So, if you have a group that is not productive, just begin to look for individuals who are ready and willing. If you want to inspire your existing group the best way to do that is to bring in a new set of willing participants. Work with the willing, build them, show them and grow them. So work with those who want it not with those who have potential. To be honest we all have potential because God gave it to us all. But, potential means absolutely nothing if you do not use it. You have to resolve in your mind to let the potential be and to go after and work with those who are willing which is the key to growth, satisfaction in your business and success for others. Simply put, spend more time finding new people.
