Are you overwhelmed with how to have a productive and fruitful day? Have you ever felt stuck in a world of excuses? Are you frustrated with having dreams that do not seem to come true? Do you lack the faith to give 100% and commit to getting the results that you not only desire but that you deserve? Today, I have a few questions for you and the first question for you is, "are your excuses bigger than your dreams?
QUESTION #2: WHAT ARE YOUR EXCUSES?
Life is so funny sometimes, how no matter what is going on an excuse can always be located. There are thousands of reasons valid or not that we can use to justify NOT doing what we want to do. Many of us have become masters at convincing ourselves that the reason that we do not do whatever is because maybe it’s the smart thing to do, it’s not realistic, it is safer this way, or the best one of all we just really did not want it anyway—plain and simple an excuse. I often tell my children that it really does not matter the excuse, just pick one and go with it if you decide to use one.
I realize that when you do something new for the first time it can be scary. Entering the unknown is terrifying, but the irony is that just as you may think of all the things that could go wrong in the same breath you could think of all the things that could go right.
You know there are those who experience moments where they have to push themselves into doing something, all to experience this incredible epiphany that, “Why did I wait so long?” These individuals often times will procrastinate and make excuses just to later realize that the benefits far outweighed any fear or discomfort that they had and would have pushed sooner had they known. That is the thing in life you do not know in advance. The only thing that we know is that our reasons to do something have to be much greater than our excuses not to.
I encourage you to make an effort to keep moving beyond your comfort zone. And ask yourself “what are you holding on to that is holding you back from what you should be accomplishing? What people are you blaming for your lack of success? What systems are you blaming for your lack of success? What circumstances are you blaming for your lack of success? What inabilities are you blaming for your lack of success? What are you using as a crutch or an excuse? Take out your journal and write them down. The first thing you would notice is that they are not true. The reason that they are not true is because we can exaggerate our circumstances by being too close. Look around you there are people all over the world who have gone through and are going through far more than you are and have. They have the same circumstances or worse and are able to overcome them. The difference is there are some, the successful ones that took those excuses and decided to throw them away and NEVER to revisit again.
QUESTIONS #3: WHAT ARE YOUR DREAMS?
I have four children and what I love so much about them is their ability to dream. Their dreams are limitless and they are beautiful. We tend to abandon those limitless and beautiful dreams that we once had for what we call reality. But in actuality our dreams are our reality if we want them and make them that. Ask yourself “What are those things that drive you? What type of contribution and legacy would you like to leave to the world? What do you want to give of yourself that can be lasting and powerful for others to talk about?
There are people who it might have it much easier than you, but the rub is pursuing and obtaining our dreams is possible for all of us. We can make as many excuses as we choose but one thing that we can NEVER honestly make an excuse about is making a decision. Our ability to make decisions for ourselves are totally within our power. So, by taking a small step to decide to go after your dreams is something we owe ourselves and others around us. We can make our dreams priorities and make the decision to pursue them, regardless of what our past looks like. There is no such thing as it is TOO late because it is only too late if we decide it is.
The important thing to realize is that the time is now, whether we have days, hours, or even just minutes to devote. We might not have the time to do everything, but we all have the time to do something. You have the power to decide that your dreams are important, and then leverage your most valuable resource—your passion—to honor them to the best of your ability.
I want you to know this one little thing your dreams are worth the effort if you are willing to be creative with the resources you have at your disposal. When those dreams, goals, aspirations and purpose become bigger than those little excuses then Purpose Directed Success is about to happen.
FINAL QUESTION: WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO TODAY MAKE EXCUSES OR GO AFTER YOUR DREAMS?
