Are you frustrated with what to do with your newly obtained prospects? Have you felt overwhelmed with leading others properly just to not doing anything at all? Are you stuck with having a team and you have no momentum toward growth? Do you feel you lack the skillset to perform the necessary steps to grow your business? I am going to give you some basic but really effective training solutionsthat you can implement today as to what you should do after you have sponsored someone.
As you may know in order to make money in your MLM business it only takes two successful activities. First, recruiting people into your organization and second retaining them. Acquisition and Retention are the elements of your Network Marketing business. Although recruiting is logical and an important step prior to retaining, retention is, and will always be in the long run, the most important of the two. Therefore you MUST become -- retention minded... and by following these ten simple steps you will be!
#1 PRE PROSPECTING
The best time to start successfully mastering retention is before you have even recruited a prospect. However, there is hope for those who currently have an organization small or large. Most people view recruiting into their MLM organizations a difficult task and many times common sense seems to fly out the window when they get close to a potential prospect. It seems like it takes forever for them find the right prospects... much less close them. The problem is the person does not ascertain whether a person is right for their organization. This is extremely wrong. We have to come to the realization that if you are only going to make money in MLM if the people in your organization work, then you will have to sponsor individuals who you can solve a problem for. Also, you will need individuals who have certain necessary attributes and skills sets for MLM success. These abilities include having good people skills as well as good communication skills.
#2 DUPLICATIBLE
I remember my first time as an Underwriter. I had been in real estate prior to but I had never held a job from that side of real estate. My training was very minimal and often times I felt that I did not have enough information to honestly do my job effectively. I was feeling a little discouraged, abandoned and frustrated. I felt that it was sink or swim. This identical scenario happens all the time when new people are recruited into MLM organizations. They are sponsored and given the most meager help imaginable.
If you want to retain your people, you've got to provide them with all the materials they need such as patching them into the system with conference calls, webcasts, etc. In short, YOU must think-through precisely what your recruits are going to need to succeed... and you must start thinking like a leader instead of a rep.
#3 GOAL SETTING
I have asked everyone in my organization to create vision boards, set goals, etc. I have given them examples to do such things. I realize that people do better if they have an objective -- and a date for reaching their goals. MLM recruits are no different. The problem with most MLM companies -- including people running individual organizations within these companies -- is that they are going nowhere. They have no precise objectives, instead inviting people to "make as much money as you want." In my experience people do not do well with this much open-endedness. They need real objectives, real dates.
It could be argued that it is up to each person to create his own objectives and if everyone in MLM -- or any other business -- were a precise self-starter that would be fine. But the truth is they are not. Therefore it is important to help set the objectives for them, both in terms of what they should be striving for... and when they should achieve it.
#4 PUT IT IN WRITING
Unfortunately, it's not enough to set an objective and a date for reaching a goal. You've got to provide your recruits with precise steps for reaching it. These steps will include such crucial components as how to identify buying signs; generate a lead-generating program; connect with and close prospects, to manage your day, how to effectively spend your limited time and money, etc.
One reason why so many people drop out of MLM is because they do not know the precise steps and timetable they need to take to reach their objectives. A lot of times no one has taken the time to share with them these steps. In short, they have improper if any expectation at all to accomplish their tasks. If you are against doing this, you are not going to keep the people you recruit... because they are not going to enjoy much success from the great thrill of working with you.
#5 REGULAR FOLLOW-UP
The Fortune is in the Follow-up. If you're going to succeed in MLM, you're going to have to master the skills of an International sales manager. This means becoming an expert in connecting with your franchises (this is how I view the individuals I sponsor), getting them to tell you what they're doing... and working with them to improve their skills. For the first month, you should connect with each new recruit at least twice a week. During these meetings or phone conferences, find out:
How the new recruit is doing
How his lead-generating program is coming along
How many calls he/she is making
What's happening in these calls
What their prospects are saying
How they are responding to their points and objectives
Whether he's learning to effectively close, etc.
Role Play
3-Way Call
Use these reports to find out how good your recruit is... and what you can do to improve their skills set will be the difference in your business. Remember DO NOT LEAVE THEM OUT THEIR ALONE.
#6 GET SOME UNDERSTANDING
There is this crazy notion that anyone who gets recruited in an MLM automatically and magically becomes knowledgeable about the program. This, however, is obviously not true. I have talked to many individuals in MLM’s and more times than I would like to admit many of them did not know how to explain the benefits of their opportunity in a few simple sentences. Now think about this if they gag, sputter, and then eventually shut down what do you think they will do with a potential prospect. It is unfortunate the number of individuals who waste their time, money, and credibility representing a company they have no true vested interest in. Consequently, when you have the chance, quiz your recruits to see if they really understand the benefits of belonging to the opportunity. Remember if they can't render the benefits quickly and pungently to you -- it's most likely they'll be unable to do so to anyone else. Either way, don't assume your recruits know the benefits... quiz them and make sure.
#7 HELP WITH LEAD GENERATION
It is not my desire to insult but it baffles me when individuals join an MLM company they sometimes seem to have a noticeable drop in their intelligence level. What I mean by that is many are like the baby sparrows who sit in their nests all day long doing nothing but waiting to come alive when their parents come flying loaded with worms, grubs and other delicacies for them. This interaction ends in their boisterous tweets as loud as they can to get their parents attention for their share. This scene plays out often in MLM recruits who do nothing for themselves... but scream at their up-lines for leads, and more leads.
I have to let you in on a secret, leads begin at home. Every one of us, we all have databases. Our databases consist of social, personal, fraternal, political, religious, business and other networks they belong to. It is your job to find out what your recruits or would-be recruits have in their databases and what he intends to do with them. Many MLM-ers are unwilling to tap the networks they have from some unreasonable belief that success comes only from recruiting total strangers.
For those individuals who do not have significant personal databases or vast sales experience they will need help. This is a MUST or you will have some very disgruntled individuals on your hands running from the business fast.
#8 LEARN TO CLOSE
This is your bread and butter because if no one ever gets involved in your business or purchases your products or services you have no business. Therefore no one is going to be a success in your organization (and therefore stay in it) who cannot close prospects. Hence, closing is where you must spend some quality time with your recruits. This topic is a topic that many experienced closers tweak and review constantly. There are countless books that have been written on the topic clearly because there are many ways in which a close can be effectively done. Here is a great video of tips that I teach that have worked great for me and my team.
Closing is easy if you know how. The inability to close constitutes a major reason why recruits drop out of MLMs. It is always valuable for you to continuing instructing your organization on how to improve their skills so this doesn't hamper their or yours success.
#9 USE THE RESOURCES AROUND YOU
Asking questions is a wise and good thing, but we tend to as adults feel as though we know everything and do not need help, especially when we are dealing with something we think we should know. Instead of asking to improve ourselves, we get caught up in failure and drop out. Not smart at all.
Do not assume that recruits know anything because we need to start from a position of humility in order for them to receive to their maximum capacity. By dealing with new recruits this way you will tend to not have problems giving them information and them receiving the information and implementing it in an excellent manner. They are well informed as to what you can and will do for them... and what the company can and will do also. Make it clear that in order for everyone to succeed they will have to ask for help. Also inform them that your knowledge and experience are tools that they can use and smart business people quickly become adept at taking advantage of all the tools in their arsenal.
Make sure you develop relationships that become an extension of your business almost like having a virtual department. These relationships become not only beneficial to you they become beneficial to your recruits as well. There may be someone in customer service who knows how to perform a task better and more efficiently than his or her coworkers thus making it easy for you and your recruits to sponsor people, maybe someone at the post office, an accountant, etc. These relationships are paramount toward running your business smoothly. They are there so develop them and use them.
#10 LEAD BY EXAMPLE
Where did people get the absurd information that MLM or network marketing is some kind of get rich quick business. People are under the notion that you sign up, do absolutely nothing (as if anything you earn money from is like that), and you shake a tree and money falls into your hand and you do not need to know anything about your business or the people that you recruit. I am being a little dramatic but these are the types of individuals that I have encountered over the years and this way of thinking is quite ridiculous but it is real. If you are going to be successful in network marketing, you will have to work with the individuals that you recruit. You have to do something.
The reason for this misnomer is that people do not ask themselves nor their recruits THE question. How much time are you willing to spend building your business? Anyone can recruit lots of people but it takes a special person to make sure the individuals you prospect will do the work required and will pass that information down to their recruits and so forth and so on.
CONCLUSION
When joining a network marketing company be selective but only to the point that you are growing; meaning do not grow so slow that you truly do not develop any momentum. Although you can be selective and you should but growing your network marketing business fast is much better in the long run than slow and steady. The kinds of people you recruit will be stronger, better candidates, willing to work with both you and the people they recruit to build a money-making organization. And they will stay with you longer, working out the kinks that all organizations have... and doing what's necessary to ensure not only their own success -- but yours, which is exactly what you want.
